Theres something wonderfully quintessential about dressing for Badminton Horse Trials, a blend of practicality, polished, and that unmistakable English country charm. It's an event that feels especially close to my heart as it's something I've always watched on television growing up as a pony mad girl, cheering on the great Mary King and dreaming one day of being part of it all. (safe to say my local Riding Club hunter trial was my limit!) I've actually never had the chance to attend in person!
Whether you are walking around the cross country course, browsing the trade-stands, or enjoying a picnic on the grounds, your outfit should feel effortless but considered. I've put together these looks using pieces from some of my favourite country brands.
Outfit 1

This outfit is the epitome of classic country elegance, blending structure with soft, wearable tones.
The beautiful blazer from Holland Cooper adds an instant polished feel, layered effortlessly over a warm brown knit from Waring Brooke - a perfect nod to the equestrian setting. Ive paid it with crisp cream jodhpur jeans from Holland Cooper and the exquisite Dorchester boots from Chalbury England, adding that timeless countryside charm. Rounding it off with the quintessential Fairfax & Favor x Lydia Millen Town and Country Clutch Bag that brings everything together with a touch of understated luxury.
It's a look that feels both elevated and effortless- ideal for strolling the grounds of Badminton House while maintaining a sense of quiet sophistication.

Outfit 2

This look perfectly balances practicality with understated elegance- ideal for the changeable British weather! Fairfax & Favor's Olivia waxed jacket gives you the classic country look with its herringbone effect waxed cotton and contrasting tweed lining and cuffs making it both functional and timeless. Layered with a beautiful white blouse from Hobbs it adds a feminine softness, with subtle detailing that keeps it feeling refined and paired with a classic dark denim jean from Marks & Spencer. My footwear of choice is the traditional Le Chameau Vierzonord Wellington boots, this outfit is ready for whatever the British weather may be! Bringing the outfit altogether I've picked the beautiful Saddle bag from the Classic British Collection by Vezavi . It's also handcrafted in Scotland and adds an equestrian touch to the outfit. It's an easy, wearable look that still feels thoughtfully put together- the kind of outfit that embodies effortless country style.

Outfit 3

Refined Equestrian Elegance - this look feels like a true nod to classic equestrian style, elevated with a tailored finish. The Holland Cooper Marlborough Trench coat is the standout piece- structured, sophisticated, and classically timeless. It brings a sense of occasion while still feeling perfectly at home in the countryside setting. Underneath, I've chosen the Rydale Wistow Sleeveless shirt with its country inspired pattern of spaniels and labradors. Pair with the Holland Cooper jodhpur jeans and the heeled tan suede Regina boots by Fairfax & Favor which add a refined edge, elongating the silhouette while remaining practical enough throughout the day. Finishing it off with the Fairfax & Favor x Lydia Millen Town and County Tan Micro top handle handbag. Altogether, this outfit strikes the perfect balance between heritage styling and modern elegance- ideal for those wanting to feel a little more dressed up while still embracing the spirit of Badminton.

Dressing for Badminton Horse Trials is as much about embracing the atmosphere as it is about style- that perfect balance of elegance, comfort and countryside practicality. Whether you lean towards classic tailoring, relaxed layers, or something a little more refined, each outfit captures a different side of that timeless English country aesthetic.
For me, its more than just fashion- it's a feeling of nostalgia, tradition and a love for horses and the countryside that has stayed with me over the years. And while I may not have experienced Badminton in person just yet, creating these looks feels like my own way of being part of it. Hopefully one day I'll be walking the grounds in one of these outfits myself- but until then, I'll continue to take inspiration from afar and enjoy every moment of the charm it brings.
